The Language of Yoga

Dear friends and yogis,

Recently I visited my sister Mariëlla in Mulhouse, France. She lives in a small hillside town in Alsace, close to Switzerland as well as Germany. I flew into Basel,Switzerland. It’s officially a three country airport. The exit signs guide you to France and Germany on the left, Switzerland on the right!

Mariëlla has a wonderful cat named Opper. It roughly translates into “upper”. Opper is a sweet long haired Russian breed. Most cats tend to hide when meeting you for the first time. Opper snuggled right into my lap with an affectionate curiosity. He would set the tone for my visit.

Two wonderful weeks with my sister talking to her in Dutch (my native language), to her friends in broken French and often hearing Alsatian. This is a local language that sounds like a mixture between French and German. I became very fascinated with it and found out it’s a slowly dying language. Younger people are moving away to the cities and only the older people still speak like this.

I venture to say that  our shared yoga practice is yet another language. This one of the body and the breath. The language of slow methodical yoga needs to continuously be shared and spoken so it doesn’t disappear in a sea of “yoga calisthenics”.

I want to take this opportunity to let all of you know that the online classes continue with renewed inspiration as the season is starting to change. Perhaps just the right time to become re-inspired and get back to the language of body, focus and breath.

ALSO: I will teach the last in person series of this year at Enso Half Moon Bay in November.
